Azanian People's Organisation (AZAPO)

Founded: 1978.

The Azanian People's Organisation is a South African political party founded in 1978 in the Black Consciousness tradition, and describes Black Consciousness and scientific socialism as the dual pillars of its ideology. Its 2024 national and provincial manifesto, 2021 local government manifesto, 2019 and 2025 congress resolutions and published policy statements cover land repossession and redistribution, an economy in which the state intervenes through state-owned enterprises and a national bank, free public education, a publicly funded National Health Insurance, municipal energy cooperatives and a renewable rollout, reformed migration policy, gender justice, and an anti-imperialist foreign policy.
